![]() ![]() A much-related term in scripture is mishpat, often thought of as “rectifying (or retributive) justice”-punishing wrongdoers and caring for the victims of unjust treatment. Righteousness is considered “primary (or distributive) justice”-that is, right behavior that, if exercised by everyone, would eliminate all of society’s social ills. In his book Generous Justice: How God’s Grace Makes Us Just, Tim Keller points out that the Hebrew word most often translated as “righteousness” in scripture ( tzadeqah) refers not to private morality, as many people wrongfully think, but to day-to-day living in which a person conducts all relationships in family and society with fairness, generosity, and equity. As God has said, “Cursed be anyone who withholds the justice due to the immigrant, the fatherless, and the widow” ( Deuteronomy 27:19), and to those who ignore the plight of the hungry, naked, sick, and imprisoned, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” ( Matthew 25:41). With each turn of the wheel, his righteous anger burns. This man-a prophet, maybe Amos-points to a flaming wheel, which represents God’s coming judgment on all those who fail to uphold social justice on the earth, who continue to oppress society’s most vulnerable people. The artist, Solomon Raj, set the focal point at the center, at the man in white. This over-seven-foot-tall batik (dyed cloth artwork for hanging), called Thirst for Justice, was commissioned in 2001 by Bread for the World, an organization that seeks to end world hunger. ![]() ![]() Outdoor security cameras differ from home security systems, which can include cameras, in monitoring capabilities. In addition to the security protection, I also use them to spot wild animals that tend to prowl around my rural mountain home and occasionally cause property damage. I have used a variety of outdoor security cameras on job sites and on my own property. I also have a seemingly endless to-do list for the maintenance of my home, a fixer-upper built in the 1800s. ![]() The most noticeable of these improvements is that the player is able to use the aforementioned plasmids and weapons at the same time rather than separately. While the premise of Bioshock 2 is more “game-y” than the rest, it improved in gameplay application. These developer docs are strewn about the three games but they are particularly shameless in Bioshock 1.īioshock 2 (2010) – considered by many to be the black sheep of the Bioshock series – has the player stepping into the shoes of a Big Daddy who is searching for his own Little Sister. It’s also incredibly irritating to place the responsibility on the player to collect all of the film reels throughout such an expansive world. While the game does warn you about potential spoilers, it’s jarring for a game to essentially celebrate how great it is. While these can be watched outside of the main game, they are horribly intrusive into the experience – especially for a first time player. The Collection’s newest addition is a set of film reels that play developer’s commentary from director, Ken Levine, and lead artist, Shawn Robertson. It undermines the importance of that choice each and every time you fell a Big Daddy. The first time, when a Little Sister crawls away from you with no Big Daddy to protect her, is still a powerful image but you’re left “gaming” the system on how powerful you become or what kind of ending that you want. Combating a Big Daddy is still as riveting and challenging as it was ten years ago but the binary choice system on whether the player kills or saves the little girls has not aged well. Little Sisters gather ADAM and the Big Daddies protect them. ![]() The final pieces of the Rapture biome are the Little Sisters and the Big Daddies. Or charge a pool of water and electrocute a group of foes. Light an oil slick on fire and set your enemies ablaze. The player indulges in Plasmids – magic powers like freezing, lightning, and fire – and each can interact with the environment in different ways. Powered by EVE (no, really, that’s in the game), the denizens of Rapture have spiraled into insanity and aggression. The city of Rapture runs on ADAM, which comes from a magic slug at the bottom of the ocean. The environments and ambiance of Rapture are still testaments to why Bioshock has been so prevalent in the industry 10 years later. You come into the city as it’s in rapid decline. Rapture has separated itself from any moral or ethical restrictions on science or the arts and is headed by Andrew Ryan, who channels Uncle Walt one minute and a fascist dictator the next. He comes across a lighthouse that takes him to the underwater city of Rapture. ![]() And while the three games still retain what made them great, including the upgrade to 60 Frames Per Second and 1080p resolution, the Collection highlights questionable design decisions across the three games.īioshock 1 (2007) starts with the player character – simply referred to as Jack – surviving a plane crash after landing in the ocean. ![]() Bioshock 1 & 2 and Bioshock: Infinite have now been re-released and revamped for newer players who missed the Bioshock games last generation and older fans of the franchise that have been entrenched since 2007. Ratchet and Clank, the upcoming Return to Arkham, The Uncharted Collection and the re-released and up-scaled versions of Resident Evil 4, 5 & 6 – just to name a few. This current generation of consoles has seen its fair share of remasters and remakes. NOTE: Bioshock: The Collection was played on the PlayStation 4 ![]() ![]() ![]() When specified properly, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport does a good job of keeping on the tail of the RS too, but comes in at over £40,000 when decent wheels and tyres and adaptive dampers are added to the already inflated base price. It’s a closer-run thing between the RS and Ford’s Focus ST, the former bettering the latter’s standard models yet coming under serious pressure from the limited-run Edition with its excellent coilovers. Now available with both a manual and dual-clutch transmission, and with updates to the seats, wheels and infotainment, the i30 N is more complete than ever while still holding on to its value advantage at £34,045 for the manual and £35,995 for the DCT. Unfortunately for the Mégane RS, that position was quickly filled by the updated Hyundai i30 N which stands as the new class champion, albeit by a smaller margin than the Honda once held. In terms of rivals, the Honda Civic Type R is currently in a gap between generations, blasting the hot hatchback class wide open for a new leader. Both share the same 296bhp engine specification paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, but differ on chassis spec and some hardware. Where once there was a dizzying array of Mégane RS variants with its two chassis options, two engine outputs and two transmissions, the midlife update has dramatically cut the range to just two models. ![]() Design – Renault’s big investment in this generation can be seen in its almost completely bespoke body.Interior and tech – Not the Mégane’s strongest element, but it’s no deal breaker.MPG and running costs – Fuel consumption has taken a big dive post-WLTP and running costs are class-appropriate.Ride and handling – The RS 300 and RS Trophy have bespoke set-ups with differing strengths and weaknesses.Performance and 0-60 time – Acceleration time is on-par for the class at 5.7sec, but the engine’s character stands out against others.Engine, transmission and technical details – The RS’s basic powertrain is shared with the Alpine A110 and is as enthusiastic as it is there. The answer to that question is thankfully it’s now something less dour, as while the trackday toy Trophy-R wasn’t reimagined and the manual option was killed off entirely, what remains is a concise range of two quite distinct RS variants with different appeals and their own pros and cons. > 2022 hot hatchback battle: the middleweights Despite the Mégane RS of this current generation having a tricky start to life, there have been real highs amongst some lows, but with some key changes made where does Renault’s only remaining hot hatchback sit following a mid-cycle update? The bad news was that the answer quickly followed, being sort of nowhere.Īside from being the source of some of the greatest hot hatches of the last 30 years, the death of Renault Sport as we know it also has ramifications in regards to the two remaining RS models in the range. When Renault announced its plans to turn Alpine into an electrified performance sub-brand for its mainstream models in 2021, the inevitable question for anyone interested in hot hatchbacks was where it would leave Renault Sport. ![]() ![]() ![]() But after years of testing, traveling with, and occasionally checking our bag, we haven’t had an issue. Some people, especially those who are hard on their gear, may consider not being able to remove or stow the Tortuga’s straps (as they can with our other picks, like the Cotopaxi) a disqualifying factor. Across moderate distances, these straps do help with the bag’s overall weight. This design (with its included load-adjuster straps at the top, to prevent the bag’s weight from sagging toward your lumbar region) is the best of those we’ve tested at distributing the weight of an otherwise fairly heavy bag. Both sizes of the Outbreaker are adjustable for torso length, which means you can manipulate the location of the shoulder straps (video) to fit a wider variety of body sizes. The more-diminutive version is a decent choice for weekend travel or for minimalist travelers-but for this size, we prefer the space-saving profile of the Allpa. The Outbreaker is available as a 45-liter bag (the max space for a carry-on bag), which we tested, along with the 35-liter version, which is compliant with some intra-European flights. ![]() ![]() And that’s despite the bag’s hefty (just over 5 pounds) weight when empty-it’s roughly 2 pounds more than most of our other picks, except the Peak Design Travel Backpack. Just as important, thanks to the adjustable torso length, shoulder straps, and waist-belt system (borrowed from hiking backpacks), the Outbreaker is the most adjustable bag we’ve tested three years in a row. ![]() ![]() ![]() Before further research, the only side-by-side two-seater jet I knew was the Sukhoi Su-34, a Soviet era-developed Russian jet. ![]() The Tornado is a two-seater, so that much was correct, but it has a “traditional” front and back seating arrangement, not side-by-side as portrayed in the film. There is also an error with the jet’s cockpit. However, the Tornado has the ability to conduct aerial refueling which would allow it to reach Cairo, but considering the jet is stolen, nobody would help or know to help Diana and Steve. As the intended flight plan was from the District of Columbia to Cairo, the Tornado would have run out of fuel long before reaching the west coast of Europe or Africa, thus stranding the duo in middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Since sources vary, the Tornado has a ferry range – one-way trip – of about 2,500 miles with external fuel tanks. Panavia Tornado with its wings swept back. ![]() There were not many external shots of the jet that was used but it strongly resembles a West German Panavia Tornado at a glance because the jet in the film had two engines, a single vertical stabilizer, two large rectangular intakes, and variable-geometry wings (also known as “swing-wings”). The film’s plot notwithstanding, Wonder Woman 1984 had more than a few issues with the scene when Diana (Gal Gadot) and a not-actually-reincarnated-because-his-soul-possessed-another-man’s-body Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) steal a jet from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in order to make the 5,815-mile trip across the Atlantic from Washington, DC to Cairo, Egypt.ĭiscounting the fact that a Great War pilot who flew planes strung together by wood, canvas, and wire somehow knew how to start up and fly a modern jet, and the issue that Diana possessed ability to make an entire jet invisible with her degenerating powers despite noting her only successful prior attempt when at full power was making a coffee mug invisible, there are many holes in Diana and Steve’s plan to take the jet they chose across the Atlantic.įirst off, assuming the Smithsonian Institution had left a fully-fueled (with external drop tanks, no less) and operational military jet on the tarmac for Diana and Steve to take, the duo would still not be able to get close to the west coast of Europe or Africa let alone Egypt. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s not hard to understand why sequences work so well. In this second example, Letters 2 through 4 nearly doubled the results of the first mail piece! Once again, that is the disproportionate response referred to by Kennedy. But as you can see by the numbers in both direct mail examples, it’s a huge mistake to rest on the laurels of one successful mailing. Many businesses would quit there and move on to work more leads. In the direct mail world, that 7.7% response to the first mailing is considered a huge success. So we tested a slightly different version of the mailing which generated the following response: In other words, the multiple mailing generated a disproportionate 2.5 times the response that a single mailing would have. (A ‘response’ means that a prospect became a customer.)ĭon't be put off by the two zero responses. One recent 4-part mailing campaign for new leads got the following response rate. Here are two real-life examples from our own work. But multiple repeated exposures will have a positive effect disproportionate to the number of exposures.” The Direct Mail Technique Proven to Increase Response Rates As the name suggests, it’s simply a series of related mailings over a period of time, usually triggered by an event such as a new lead entering your system.īest-selling business author Dan Kennedy once said that “no matter how good the offer is, a single exposure to a given group of prospective customers will have minimal effect. The technique I'm talking about is the sequenced mailing. Done properly, any small business can see a significant return on investment. One of the easiest marketing techniques to implement is without question one of the most effective. Remarkably, this marketing strategy tripled our gross sales in one year and doubled them the next during the formative years in a new venture. ![]() |
